Colts and Manning set to separate ways

Less than two hours after word leaked that the era of Peyton Manning in Indianapolis was coming to an end, a prominent member of jet wondered what life would be like with no 18, wearing green.

"I want it in New York" jets player told the Daily News. "He needs to be a Jet."

MYERS: WHY THE JETS SHOULD GET PEYTON TO GO GREEN

The Colts, who reportedly, chose not to pay a bonus of 28 million dollars due to crew from Thursday, will announce Wednesday that cut the four-time NFL MVP. Manning, who turns 36 later this month, will probably become the most coveted free agent in League history. The Daily News has learned that the jets have had serious internal discussions about Manning in recent weeks.

REX AND JETS NOT PASSED ON MANNING IF HE IS AVAILABLE

The consensus within the organization is that the Jets actually will investigate health of Manning and wanted to play in the same city as his younger brother, Eli. "I think any team in the League without an elite quarterback should be interested in a healthy Peyton Manning," said a source.

However, discord and disruption that has defined the Jets ' season 8-8 can keep Manning on.

"Why Peyton Manning wants to come to the circus?" said a team source.

SUPER BOWL, COLTS FANS NOT READY TO SAY GOODBYE TO PEYTON

Several members of The News organization said in January that they would part ways with Mark Sanchez for Manning, who missed the entire season 2011 after four neck surgeries over a period of 19 months. The Jets could conceivably entice Manning with Tom Moore, the offensive gurus who headed the future Hall of Fame quarterback in Indianapolis for years. Moore, who served as an adviser to jets in 2011, is not under contract with Gang Green for 2012.

The jets, of course, run the risk of alienating Sanchez, who was criticized and off the record from current and former teammates after the season if they swing and don't miss out on Manning. "Can you imagine if the word that we're trying to get Peyton Manning and Peyton Manning get?", said a member of the organization. "Then we have to play with Sanchez?"

A member of the organization believes that there are "mixed feelings" to bring Manning on board. The jets would almost certainly pit conservative regime of new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano for Manning.

"Do the New York Jets for Peyton Manning?" said a team source. "We are not built for running the system he loves."

Some in the organization think Sanchez, who had career-highs in touchdown passes (26) and turnovers (26) in its third season, might have happened under Sparano.  "Believe in him," said a source of Sanchez's jets.

"I think he can do well in Shooting".

Although Rex Ryan and GM Mike Tannenbaum reaffirmed their faith in Sanchez to combine exploring a couple of weeks ago, they did not close the door to speculation about Manning. Green stripe doesn't have much wiggle room under the salary cap, but the Jets recently freed up to more than 7 million dollars by restructuring the contract of left tackle d'brickashaw Ferguson. Claimants, such as dolphins and Cardinals finally can break the Bank to get the quarterback. "Based on what we feel that we can offer," a source of jets said, "I have the feeling that we are a long shot".

The Jets must first determine whether Manning is healthy enough to resume his All-Pro form. Last week, a YouTube clip, modified 27-second emerged Manning, doing four steps in a Colts helmet and jersey to the Duke.

"If there is any question about his health," said a source of jets, "Forget about it."
